Laura Linney is an American actor, who became famous for her portrayal of powerful but fragile characters. Born to a well-known playwright father, but was raised by a single mom who worked in the field of nursing, she began to take an interest in theater while having summers spent with her father and eventually pursuing a degree in acting initially in Brown University and then at Juilliard School. After just two short years after graduation she began her Broadway-based career. In the following year, she made her debut in TV and film. Over the past few years she has appeared in a variety of TV productions, films and stage plays. Over the course of her career, she won several awards, among them her two Golden Globe Awards. Yet, despite the array of awards the theatre is still her primary passion and she has continued to appear both on screen and on stage.
